EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE & LEGAL CAREER

Debra Lux-Roland has been an attorney for over 25 years in Macomb County. She is currently the Chief Attorney/Chief Administrator of the Mental Division of the Macomb County Probate Court. She has held this position for over five years.

Aside from general administrative and court duties, she has worked extensively over the last three years compiling a policy manual for the implementation of "Kevin's Law" in Macomb County. She also exclusively prepared the training manuals and handout materials for the yearly "Mental Health" and "Developmentally Disabled" attorney training seminars.

Prior to her Probate Court employment, for over sixteen years Ms. Lux-Roland was a self-employed, sole practitioner with a general practice specializing in real estate, domestic relations, corporations and all aspects of probate law. While in private practice she was on the Macomb County Probate Court's rotation list for attorney and Guardian Ad Litem appointments. She represented individuals in both developmentally disabled guardianship hearings and for the mental illness involuntary hospitalization petitions.

While a sole practitioner she also had a short subcontract arrangement with Lakeshore Legal Services to assist them while they were short-staffed. Debra also worked for the Law Offices of James V. Dubay, located in Richmond, MI and began her legal career at the Law Offices of Sidney R. Borders in Utica, MI.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Debra worked at the Law Offices of Waterman, Hooe, Curry & Hughes in Pontiac, MI as a paralegal. Following college graduation, she worked in the Oakland County Probation Department.

From 1993 until 2004, Debra Lux-Roland was an Adjunct Professor at Macomb County Community College. She taught the Business Law, Real Estate Law and Legal Writing classes in the Paralegal Associate's Program. In her teaching career, she also substitute-taught various other classes in the Paralegal Program. Ms. Lux-Roland has also given numerous presentations to schools and parent groups about probate and guardianship matters.

Cooley Law School, attending from May 1980 until May 1983. She was then sworn in and admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan in November of 1983. FAMILY LIFE

Not being a "career politician", Debra Lux-Roland has always been a hard-working, dedicated, compassionate, ethical, honest, trustworthy and reliable attorney with a strong work ethic, is committed to her clients, work, family and friends. She has been a lifelong Macomb County resident and currently resides in Clinton Township. She has been married for over 25 years to her husband, Tom, also a Fraser High School graduate. Tom proudly served in the US Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division while stationed in Camp Pendleton, CA. He is currently employed with the City of Grosse Pointe Farms Water Filtration Department.

Tom & Debbie have four children; Danielle (24), Ashley (22), Kevin (21) and Melanie (19), three of whom are graduates of Chippewa Valley High School. Their oldest daughter, Danielle, is a Cum Laude graduate of Western Michigan University now working in the Human Resources Management field. She will be starting Law School in August!

Their daughter Ashley, an honor student, is in her last year at Central Michigan University in the Elementary Education curriculum.

Their "favorite son" is pursuing an education in Law Enforcement.

Ms. Lux-Roland's youngest daughter, Melanie, is a special-needs young adult and currently attends the Lutz-M.I.S.D. school program for the developmentally disabled. She is a "completer" of the Glen Peters M.I.S.D program. Melanie has been in M.I.S.D. programs, starting with the pre-primary impaired program from about two years old. Her daughter's impairments and struggles have enhanced her ability to fully understand and empathize with the disabled community and their families and makes her uniquely qualified for the Probate Court Judgeship position!

Debra's youngest daughter Melanie has participated in the Special Olympics for the last 13 years

Debra's parents, Rex and Pat Lux, along with her grandparents and extended family, instilled in her at a very young age a strong commitment to family values and a strong work ethic. Her parents are lifelong residents of Macomb County and have been married for almost 53 years. It is that family commitment, values and ethics that Debra will bring with her into the office as Macomb County Probate Court Judge.
